The November 4, 2008 election proved that the spoken word is soon forgotten, but the written word lasts forever. It may have been written just to sound good at the time, but the substance did not change. The passage on time, the civil rights movement, equal access to education, amendments to the constitution and faith in someone other than man caused this "change". The majority of the voters made those words written in (1776 - The Declaration of Independence) such as "all men are created equal" ring true. One visionary said " truth crushed to earth will rise again".
As a 63 year old Black man, I saw that day as the beginning of a metamorphosis in the United States. The ugly caterpillar started solwly changing into a beautiful butterfly. Its wings are not strong enough for flight yet, but it is becoming stronger.<Enter The BodyText Here>
On January 20, 2009 we, all citizens of the United States, will began a new direction guided by President Barack Obama.
He will have a long "to do" list starting with the failed policies he is inheriting from eight (8) years of the Bush / Chaney administration.
A partical list would include:
Two (2) wars, failing banks-insurance companies and investment firms, high gas and heating oil prices, record un-employment, record foreclosures in the housing market and repossessions by car dealers, serious decline in auto sales and travel in the airline industries, a slow down in home construction that is having a domino effect on the real estate sales-constructions workers and suppliers, a spike in food prices, increases in college tuition, a failing elementary and middle school system and a (real) high school drop out rate hovering around 35%, a conservative Supreme Court and lost of "respect" from most of the countries we share this earth with.
Those problems alone could take four years to stop the bleeding, change the course, and then inprove the process, but there are other problems that will command equal or greater time. A few that requires immediate attention are:
A. Developing a health care system.
B. Enforcing the regulations in place and adding more where needed.
C. Create jobs by upgrading or replacing our infrastructure.
D. Grant tax relief to our middle class and poor citizens.
E. Stop the wars.
F. Do whatever it takes to insure our national security.
G. Revolutionize our antiquated public school system.
H. Eliminate the childness name-calling. (axes of evil)
I. Put balance of trade and peace in our international agenda.
If we, citizens want to help save our failing system, we must be willing to make some changes in our attitude and lifestyle. For some of us, it will be a minor change and for others a major change
There was once a weathly, educated, powerful and well respected man who wanted to know how he could achieve eternal life. He took his question to a much wiser man. The wise man said (paraphrasing - John 3:7) "Nicodemus you have so many negative traits that you would need a complete change, your whole structure is wrong".
Let us support President Barack Obama, Vice-President Joe Biden and their fully vetted team of cabinets secretaries and world class advisors as they help make our country stronger by guiding us through this "CHANGE".
